On 18 October 2014, in a moment I've been dreading for most of the year, Darrin John Ford died after a lengthy period of declining health.
I've lost one of my oldest Internet friends, going back to the late '90s when we were waging a Conservative counterinsurgency against the Leftist and Counterculturalist infestation on Carolyn's Little World (Carolyn Gargaro) and Rightgrrl! (Carolyn Gargaro and Stephanie Herman). D.J. was The Radical-Conservative, or Rad-Con for short, and I was, as I have been since 1997, The Compleat Heretic. GIT SOME!!!
We agreed on most things which allowed us to most cordially disagree when it came to the notable exception of religion . . .
Go easy, brother. The fight goes on!

I agree iwth you on the religon but not much else. O, on one part you insulted the Irish. I am a Scot/Irish. As far as I am concerned, anyone who denegrates Irishmen is full of BS. Do it one more time, and I'll go get me claymore(I am also part Scottish). As for the politics. I hate the Republicans slightly more than the Democrats. At this level of hate, that does not matter much though. Politicians suc. You got the hypocritical republicans, or the morally corrupt democrats, or the completly inpet ( for the most part) other guys. Sucks. Democrats are dumb with gun control, Republicans are dumb with abortion. BTW, as you are atheist, you should be a little weary of your party. Seems to me far more republicans push for the religous rigth than do democrats.

Actually, my reference to "Irish trash" on my Irritations page was limited to the Kennedys of Massachusetts and was not a blanket slur against my Irish cousins. Of course, being of Scottish descent, I reserve the right to do so as needed; a wee bit of intra-Gaelic rivalry never hurt anyone! And as for being a Republican atheist, I am perfectly comfortable being in the same party as the Religious Right as we generally agree on the moral and social issues. After all, I did subtitle the political portion of my autobiography "How I Learned to Stop Worrying About the Religious Right
and Find a Political Home."

I think that i am the younger version of you. You hold most of my beliefs, except your pro-life stance. I think that life starts at the first time the baby thinks/reasons. That is what makes us human. They need to find out when that is, and set that up as the time limit for abortion. At first thought, the child is home free. On a less serious note, what is your USCF rating? Mine is only around 800 (i suck.). Nice reading your ideas and nice to know that there are more conservative atheists out there.

In Aborting America (1979), Bernard Nathanson, M.D. reports that embryos emit brain waves measurable with an electroencephalograph by the end of the sixth week of gestation. I don't know if you'll accept this as "thinking," but anything other than a flat EEG clearly indicates brain activity. Such evidence certainly demonstrates that preborn human beings, even very early in their development, are far more than "nonviable tissue masses" or whatever "pro-choice" slur the pro-abortion bigots prefer. As for using reasoning ability as your "abort/don't abort" criterion, children don't even begin to evince anything like reason in the adult sense until after age five, and I don't think you want to go there.
My USCF rating is 1489, but I haven't played a rated chess tournament in over six years as I've been busy with other things. As for your "sucky" rating, hit the books and apply what you learn over the board as often as possible. Glad you enjoyed the site.
