I wrote this poem for my high school Creative Writing class journal on 7 March 1978, the day after the attempted assassination of Hustler publisher, Larry Flynt. I was more sympathethic towards him at the time than I am now, but I still think he has every right to publish his smut. Note: each stanza is a haiku; ain't I clever!

The Publisher

Look at the poor man
Lying on the cold pavement
Stained by his dark blood.

The Publisher fights
For his life and liberty
With pride and honor.

The land of the free?
Not on March sixth of this year.
Damn the oppressors!
