Webmaster's Response:
I accept this award in memory of my family's wirehaired fox terrier, Angel, aka Pooners or Poonie Dog (1972-1986). She strayed into our lives when she was about six months old. The family who had owned her couldn't deal with such a "lively" and "energetic" puppy. Soon after we took her in, we realized just how truly "special" she was when we came home one day and found the recliner over six feet out of place. Angel had dragged this heavy piece of furniture across a carpeted floor by the flap on the footrest and obviously had stopped only when her haunches hit the hearth! Though she had shredded the flap in the process, no one in our family was angry with her; we all marvelled at the strength and tenacity of this young little dog. She always loved to play tug-of-war with a length of rope or an old towel; she usually won because once she clamped on, she would not let go! Until the final year of her life when she went blind, she never tired of chasing down an old tennis ball, inside or out. She was a smart, affectionate, loyal, tough, fearless, and feisty member of our family; she fit right in. I still miss her; she was such a great dog...

Webmaster's Response:
::HAND SALUTE::
And lest the civilians be confused, please note:
In the military, the hand salute is a demonstration of mutual respect between servicemembers. Protocol dictates that the lower ranking member salute first and that the higher ranking member return the salute. Regardless of who initiates the exchange, both giving and receiving the hand salute are high honors allowed only to the military. Veterans retain the privilege when they return to civilian life so they may honor one another, the service, and our country's flag.
