Virtual Cities War Veteran's Gold Award
|
Description: Lupércio Mundim, a Brazilian lawyer and webmaster, in conjunction with his personal travel site, Virtual Cities, offers awards to recognize the efforts of other webmasters, including the War Veteran's Gold Award to "reward nice websites of war veterans" who acknowledge "in their websites that [they] are war veterans."
Citation: "Very nice, you served in wartime, so you are a war veteran, of course!"
Awarded: 31 May 2012
|
Webmaster's Response:
I served on active duty from January 1986 to December 1989, including two years in Cold War Germany and a year and a half at Ft. Lewis, Washington. After completing my four-year enlistment, I transferred to the Reserves to fulfill the remainder of my eight-year mandatory service obligation. During the Persian Gulf War, as a member of the 3274th U.S. Army Hospital, Durham, North Carolina, I was activated and served for nine months at Womack Army Community Hospital, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina from August 1990 to May 1991. This service qualifies me as a war veteran, and both the United States Army and the American Legion agree.

Note well: In accepting this award, I am not claiming to be a combat veteran as I was never deployed in a war zone.
